Martial Artist or Boxers Nutrition

Publish date: 20/07/2013

If you are a martial artist or boxer, a good diet is important for you to stay in form and keep up with your training schedule. Martial artists or boxers need to take a well-balanced diet to maintain their strong muscles and energy level. You need strength and stamina to fight with their challenger, besides a nutritious diet that will offer them a great level of energy throughout the fight.

Practitioners must consult their nutrition and medical experts before starting with any diet, as the former will guide them about the proper diet that will suit their specific body needs. Being a professional, you require maintaining your energy level during long workouts. Sports nutrition boosts energy and helps you get the best body composition.

As a footballer, you should focus on the quantity, quality and balanced intake of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and supplements for an improved and balanced body, better mobility, greater power, strength and speed, better energy for strong workouts, fast recovery, strong immune system, healthy body weight and an enhanced performance.

  • Carbohydrates are the perfect foodstuff for them as they slowly release energy for a continued period of time and increase the stamina during training and fights. They should consume natural carbohydrates including beans, yams, whole-wheat grain, oatmeal and fruits. 45 to 55% of their diet should be of carbohydrates.
  • Your diet should comprise at least 30-40% proteins, as they are very helpful in repairing damaged muscles, increase muscle growth and acts as an energy source. Good sources of protein are tuna, chicken, lean beef and eggs. Protein drinks like ‘Accelerade’ and ‘Rapid Recovery’ should only be taken by those who are into serious and intensive training program.
  • You need some amount of fat to continue with the essential internal body functions. You should consume essential fats or fatty acids, such as Omega-3 and Omega-6. Seafood, walnuts, cod liver oil and flaxseed oil are the sources of omega-3 fatty acids.  Monounsaturated fats found in seeds, olives and avocado are also necessary for the body. Fats should form 15% of their daily diet.
  • Water is necessary to stay healthy and energised, especially in a sport like Martial Arts and boxing, where one easily becomes dehydrated. You should consume at least 8 to 10 glasses of water daily and increase its consumption during the fight.
